I can't get enough of this print by Carly Schwerdt for Umbrella Prints. I ordered some meterage in it, and it just arrived today after much anticipation. I love it! I ordered three of the colors and they all exceed my expectations. Not only are they killer cute mod elephants, but it is printed on an organic cotton and hemp blend fabric with 100% water based solvent free inks. All hand printed in Australia. Hats off to these great Australian textile designers!
How cute for a nursery or kids room, or a little smock! So great.

So I just had a customer purchase a custom order on Etsy the other day. She purchased the top fabric which is the "Tanjore Assam" It is an elegant embroidered floral pattern on linen. I am excited to receive it!
The geometric fabric in purple shown at the bottom is one of my favorites. It is called "Minaret". I think it's fabulous, in fact it may find its way onto my sofas upstairs, that still don't have any pillows on. Of all the things you would think I would at least have some great pillows on my own sofa...still waiting!

Take a moment and notice how I still don't have a lamp on my nightstand...very dysfunctional every single night when I need a light, I already wasted money on a floor boom arm lamp that doesn't even fit by the side of my bed with the nightstand!

I love the color combo in this pattern. I think it would be really cute with a pink back on it too!

The cake flowers were a bit of a struggle to complete, because the cake had started to melt!! But I think it turned out good in the end. I loved the cotton ball streamers! (super great idea by the bride!) I really like how these flowers pulled together. She wanted something bright and eclectic, but somewhat vintage.
The second photo down is from another wedding job a week before. I used a really pretty garden rose, I thought they were really cool looking. They look like a a mix between a peony and a rose. Very pretty.

FURNITURE MARKET

Some pieces from Noir and Dovetail furniture. Me + Charity went to the Vegas furniture Market this last week. First time for me, but will be the last too. We saw some great things, but mostly just crap, to be honest. This market is not really geared towards Interior Designers/Decorators who don't have brick and mortar storefronts. Therefore a lot of the stuff was the kind of stuff you would see at places like RC Willey, or Ashley furniture. Boo.
But we did have lots of fun getting some much needed sun time, and shopping time!! The malls are open till eleven at night in the casinos, and we were having a blast shopping late into the night, ticking off a cab driver by not tipping him (because he was a jerk), and watching the first season of Glee!!

I know I learned a little of it in college, but I didn't listen very well, and have since then really wanted to learn how to make patterns! The one above is one I created. We had much, much fun at the Bijou Market this last weekend! It was a great location I thought. (I just know Charity will love that she is in one of the photos!! ;) Charity and I were busily sewing a couple days before the market, and we really did an amazing job at getting some product whipped out! Janica even drove all the way down from Green River to be part of the fun!!..Our favorite pillow...the Chiang Mai, of course! Thanks so much to all who supported modernthread this time!! I have had a thing lately with finding vintage chairs....just what I need...more chairs!!! Anyway, I just couldn't pass these ones up! I thought they would be normal sized chairs, but they are more like a child's chair, which made them even more appealing to me! The spindle backs, and the turning on the legs really gives them some character.

Here comes the wedding season!! Here is a bridal bouquet I did the other day.
I have decided after making this bouquet that I have "had better" when it comes to working with certain flowers. These Lilly's were just being difficult! I guess at least this time I learned my lesson. That lesson being that I have to buy Lilly's at least 3 days ahead of time so that they can actually blossom! The last time I used them, they all blossomed the day after the wedding! Oops.

Last night I helped my sister make Bennett little birthday announcements. We had no plans or ideas, and just started from scratch, and came up with this. (It was Janica's idea to add the coral.) which I just love! My printer was being super stupid though, and putting stripes through everything (even after cleaning the nozzle heads!). Dang Epson. Seriously I just bought like a brand new pack of ink, which is basically like buying half a printer, and now it is doing all sorts of funky things!

I really like this line of bottles and sippy cups. The nipples are interchangeable with several different brands, and the bottle has a lifetime warranty. It is BPA free, and you don't have to worry about it breaking like glass. ....and the colors! There is a blue one too! Check them out her e!
I also bought the boon wheat grass drying rack, and have been very happy with it! It is very springy and I love green, and Ella's pink bottle on top of it looks like a flower blossoming out of the grass. The colors are just bright and fun! I found it for a really good price here!

Lately I have been going crazy over different color combos....! I am loving mint green paired with mustard, and red orange! I am trying to think of new interesting color combos for my new line of bibs for the spring 2010 shows! Not only bibs, but pillows too! For all you fabric lovers...don't you just love LOVE Robert Kaufmans' kona cotton solids! I buy those mostly because they are locally available, but there is also PB textiles available at Purl. Beehive Bazaar Going on now thru saturday till 8 o'clock!
Alright, so I had heard that this show was pretty crowded...but I didn't realize that it would be completely out of control --jam packed, full of people to the point where it was difficult just to walk around!! Oh my goodness it was crazy, but it was pretty fun anyway. The line was pretty insane as well. I think that is why stuff would just get randomly put back in the wrong spot. I had a bunch of other stuff set on my display that wasn't mine...and I would also see some of my stuff just set down on other people's displays...it was like, "Hello, this isn't a store...you can't just set something down where ever you want!" Then my mom was sure these two ladies were shoplifting, because they were putting things in their pockets and purse??! Yeah, I don't think that is a normal thing to do if you plan on paying for something?! Anyway it was like, well what do you do when you see that? If you confront them they would just deny it and say they were planning on buying it. So I hope they get what is coming to them if they were stealing. Shame on shoplifters--especially at a handmade market!! Security at these kinds of events are reliant on people being honest. So it made me kind of nervous that maybe people were just walking out with stuff, and not paying for it.

I just happen to have lots of white cotton jersey on hand, so I have been having fun with different things...well and I have a ruffler attachment foot for my machine, so that is fun to play with too!

The quilt was finished a couple days before I went into labor. Me + my mom worked on it pretty much straight for two days. It was a fun little project to work on before baby came. We ended up hand stitching it, and I am glad we did. I attached the binding by machine, it was quick and it turned out really well.

My mom + I worked on this quilt for the new arrival headed my way. We have so far just finished the quilt top. I am still debating how to finish it off. I think I may just machine stitch it, but I like hand stitching so much more, that we may do that. It makes a little more special for baby! I am crazy for zig zags lately...don't know what it is, but here is a good tutorial if you want to make yourself a nice little ziggy zaggy quilt!

I am waiting for my Hable Construction fabric to arrive, then I am going to try and make a diaper clutch and changing pad, maybe I will get to it before I go into labor...!

Wedding Flowers: Freesia, tulips, brezila, roses, poppy pods, lisanthium, and those feathery things....
The stems are wrapped in a wired bark for a little bit of a woodsy feel.

I love that this blog can serve as a file for keeping an online portfolio of my work. I seriously wish I knew how to make my blog cooler. You know like all the good design blogs that have a custom format, and bigger photos, with different formats...maybe someday I will figure it out.

I printed all of these myself...yes... myself, on a tiny little gocco printer. Also sewed all 400 myself too. Yeah I admit that was a little crazy. But I liked how they turned out, and I guess it gave me a little self-satisfaction to know that I had done it by hand.

These were for a friend. They are an example of Thermography. Which is just the cheap version of engraving. With Thermography it's a raised glossy print, and with engraving it's a raised matte finish (engraving is a completely different process when it comes to laying the ink on the paper) If it were my choice I would go with the engraving hands down, it is right up there with the elegance and beauty of letterpress.

An Ikea purchase with added antique label pulls, you can find the label holders at smallbox hardware. I think that it could have been better lacqured up with some bold glossy paint!

I like the fresh, bright feeling to this room. I actually painted one of our extra bedrooms a similar color not knowing what gender the next baby would be..(it's a girl, yay!) But I was thinking of using more of a chartruese with a red orange? I don't know...what I do know is I am spinning my wheels over it again, and again!

What a seriously cute rug by designer Angela Adams. I wish I were so lucky to be able to win it for free or something...okay, well that sounds kind of cheap, so I will say, "I would buy it if I could afford it." It would look great in the nursery.

I was really kind of stupid, again. That is because these are the only photos that I took of these flowers that I did for a wedding this last weekend, and these were taken with Matt's phone. ..so they are not the greatest!? I really liked how here bouquet turned out, if only I would have taken a good picture of it!! For her reception she wanted wrist corsages, and of course I don't have any pics of those, but they seemed to turned out pretty well. I was slightly nervous, because I have never attempted wrist corsages before. I used a lot of floral glue, that stuff was great!!

I used some Yarrow, roses, gerberas, lisathium, brazilia, and rice flower, all in muted pinks and creams.

Another bag I worked on for another sister-in-law. We had this planned out for like 5 months and I finally got to it. It's funny though, we had already cut all the fabric pieces out long ago, so when I finally started sewing it last week I had to improvise with the pre-cut pieces. This is the first bag I have ever done an inside zipper pocket on. I think its called a "slip pocket". I found a couple of good sewing tutorials on it, one from sew, mama, sew!, and another from creative daisy's blog.

I love this pendant, it is just one of those things that I always thought I would just have to enjoy the picture of because it's crazy expensive, but I recently purchased one off ebay to my suprise! Trust me, it is very rare to find this fixture on ebay for such a discounted price! I felt very lucky to have come across it. Anyway I bid on it the most I was willing to pay, because the seller had a reserve on it, and after the auction ended he ended up selling it to me for the price I set! I was really glad. I was sewing this yesterday. I continue to practice putting invisible zippers in with my new "invisible zipper foot". It works a lot better than what I was using, and they are really not all that hard once you get the swing of it. This is a wool felt pillow cover. I bought way too much fabric this weekend....the story of my life. I found a pretty good tutorial on neveryawn.

Okay, I don't know what it is but these big puffy vintage wood buttons that I found from the UK, but I just want to squish them. I love them. The dark wood ones are from China, I like them too, considering they were 1/10 the cost of the others. Speaking of which I spent way too much on the puffer buttons...I got a little confused about the foreign exchange rate and ended up spending double what I thought? But they feed me inspiration.

Okay this is a tiny picture, but if any of you want something very nice and functional for the pantry, this is it! These are the OXO storage containers. I love them! They are air tight and stackable. In Utah you can get them at Sur La Table @ the Gateway, or Gygi. But the best bang for your buck is to buy them at the oxo website, because you can purchase them in sets.

Birds, birds, birds! There is a free printable pattern for the stuffed fabric birds on the twigs from SpoolSewing, really how cool is that? So everyone needs to go to their website and print out this pattern! The bird prints are awesome as well. All created by a single artist. Wedding Favors

Finished Project

Storkline

I am so excited that I finally got my ebay purchase! Its a vintage Storkline chair. It took a while to get here, because I am a cheap skate and I chose the USPS instead of the UPS to save myself $20 on the shipping. I think that this chair was made in the late 1940's early 1950's. First I am sanding the wood down, and then I am going to condition the wood before applying a dark mahogany stain. The plastic tray is pretty ugly, but I don't know how to change that. I may try and find a metal one that fits.

Gocco Invites

This is my most recent wedding invitation design. Too bad the photos are terrible. I really want a new camera!!! I keep telling my hubby that I am buying one after our next child...so until then. Anyway, I don't know if there are any other crazy gocco'ers out there, but I printed all 400 invites on my tiny little PG-5 machine. Okay, but that doesn't just mean 400...that means I printed 400 invites with 6 different images when its all put together, so lets do the math 400X6 =2400. That means I pressed my little gocco machine down 2400 times! My husband thinks I am a crazy person, and I would have to say I agree!!! Oh and as if that wasn't time consuming enough, I also sewed every single one. Yeah how's that for CRAZY!

Party, party!

I made this felt dot mat sitting below the party goods. It was a pain to make. I thought it would be pretty simple, but it took more time than I was really wanting to spend on it, but I like how it turned out for the most part, it was made of cheap 30 cent felt sheets from a local craft store. I just put my sewing machine on the zig zag setting and tightly stitched just a tiny little tac to connect each of the dots.
